The article on Charlottesville hospitals relies heavily on the accounts in Judge R.T.W. Duke's memoirs and Edgar Woods' "History of Albemarle County, Virginia" together with other secondary sources in the University of Virginia Library. It quotes verbatim a letter from the grandson of the Rev. Robert W. Barnwell and an interview with the niece of his wife. The account of Garrison's birthday celebration includes a tribute the the Rev. Edwin S. Sweeney.
